This abandoned lake front home had squirrels living inside when I first came to the home. There was water damage from frozen pipes causing major mold issues throughout the house. The house was gutted and mold remediation was handled by experts. Then the fun began, with only the exterior walls and the original stone fireplace. to design around. I designed a kitchen with great views of the lake because the owner loved being in the kitchen. The master suite is on the upper level, complete with a luxurious bath and walk in closet. A suite was made in the lower walk out level for the grandchildren to have their own hangout spot. A screened in porch is the main living space in the warmer months, it spans the entire lake side of the house.

Process
The house was originally built in the 1930s. After years of neglect and changes the house was abandoned. The new owner wanted to retire to a peaceful setting.
Due to frozen pipes there was extensive mold. Mold remediation was performed first.
The entire inside was gutted leaving a clean slate for the new owner to create a modernized haven. Only the old stone fireplace remained.
A modern kitchen with views of the lake, open to living and dining makes the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee.
A master suite was developed on the upper level complete with a walk in closet, corner office with view of the lake and luxurious bathroom.
The lower level has a family room and bedrooms for quest to enjoy their privacy and quick access to the lake.
Client Reviews
“This project was a complete gut renovation of a 1950 lake front house on Candlewood Lake in CT. When purchased in a short sale the house was uninhabitable - no kitchen, bathrooms, power or water. The location was the attraction but it was a challenge. Caren’s professionalism, creativity, reliability and encouragement were critical in the successful completion of the project.”
